What?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. So it is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. Because If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”

You may experience sensations in the body such as heat, cold or tingling. Some people report seeing visualisations such as colours or pictures or having memories appear. You might feel nothing at all but pure relaxation.

We are alive, because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body though pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. But when this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body. The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. So it becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. So it raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. But this causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.

Many people find Reiki to be helpful for reducing stress and promoting a sense of well-being. However, it’s essential to note that the effectiveness of Reiki, like many complementary therapies, can vary from person to person.

Some people report feeling more relaxed, less anxious, and better able to cope with stress after receiving Reiki treatments. The gentle, non-invasive nature of Reiki can make it appealing to those seeking relief from stress and tension.

Although Reiki energy is spiritual in nature, Reiki is not a religion. Practitioners are not asked to change any religious or spiritual beliefs they may have. They are free to continue believing anything they choose and are encouraged to make their own decisions concerning the nature of their religious practices.

How?

In a standard treatment Reiki energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client. The client is usually laying on a massage table. But treatments can also be given while the client is seated or even standing.

You will remain fully clothed. I place my hands on or near your body, in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet.

But other, more specific positions may be used based on your needs. Each position is held for three to ten minutes depending on how much Reiki you need at each position. The whole treatment usually lasts roughly 45 minutes, although it can be longer depending on the your needs.

Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatment. But it can complement conventional therapies.

Yes, distant or remote Reiki sessions involve sending energy across distances and allows the client to stay in the comfort of their own home.

Reiki generally has no harmful side effects, but some people may experience emotional releases or temporary discomfort with cold/flu like symptoms as their energy body clears the negative energy.

Reiki aims to promote overall well-being and can complement the healing process. But it is not a guaranteed cure for specific ailments.

Yes, Reiki is safe for children and can be beneficial for various issues.

The frequency of Reiki sessions varies depending on individual needs. But usually at least three sessions are recommended to assist you. So clients usually visit on a weekly basis.

But?

Reiki may assist in addressing emotional issues by promoting relaxation and releasing blocked energy.

Yes, animals can benefit from Reiki, and many practitioners offer sessions for pets in their own homes.

Reiki can be combined with other holistic practices, enhancing overall well-being.

Reiki is generally safe during pregnancy and will treat the little one at the same time.

Reiki may offer relief from chronic pain by promoting relaxation and supporting the body’s own natural healing processes.

  • Drink lots of water. Because the energy helps the body to flush out toxins.
  • Allowing time for rest.
  • But be gentle with yourself – allow your emotions to flow.
  • So take time to notice how you are feeling and any thoughts/memories that might emerge.
