Many things can cause stress for pre-teens and teenagers; Exam stress, nervousness, anxiety, peer pressure, period pains and hormones. But, not forgetting emotions such as anger, sadness low self-esteem and low confidence.

Pressure to 'Keep Up'

Modern day situations can also cause stress for pre-teens and teenagers. Social Media use can negatively affect teens. Distracting them, disrupting their sleep, and exposing them to bullying. Even rumour spreading, providing unrealistic views of other people’s lives and pressure to ‘keep up’.

So the young people of today don’t have it easy. As you can see the list of issues and pressures appears endless:

  • School work, decisions about subjects, exams and pressure to do well.

  • Relationships with friends and romantic relationships.

  • Life changes like leaving school, moving house, going to university or getting a job.

  • Too many things to squeeze into their week, alongside any social life and feeling unprepared or overwhelmed by this.

  • Family conflict. Big decisions, like deciding whether to open up and talk about something sensitive or important.

So is it any wonder the youth of today can be moody, distant and unwilling?

Juggle the Modern World

Whilst Reiki may not promise to cure young people of all their woes, it can certainly help calm their mind. Because it will give them space in their head to process, reorganise and prioritise everything they have to juggle in the modern world.
